Before it was Lily Lake, this crossroads was “Canada Corners” — named for the Canadian settlers who arrived from 1836, including Eliphalet Read of New Brunswick alongside English settler William Kendall. When the Chicago Great Western Railroad reached the area in the 1880s as a milk stop for dairy farmers shipping to Chicago, the settlement shifted and took the name of the roughly 12-acre lake at the original townsite — a lake that has since become the pond and wetland the village credits as a major recharge area for local aquifers. The Village a Landfill Fight Created

Lily Lake is one of Kane County’s youngest villages, and it exists because of a single decision. For more than 150 years the community at Route 47 and Empire Road was content to be governed by Campton Township and Kane County — through its Canada Corners days, through the railroad era, through the 1918 consolidation of four one-room schoolhouses into Lily Lake Grade School, which still teaches students on Route 47 today as what the village itself calls “an iconic rural American image.” Then came the proposal for a major landfill just west of town, and on November 6, 1990, residents voted to incorporate specifically to stop it. The landfill never came; the village stayed.

That story shapes every HVAC visit here. Instead of a historic core of century-old houses, roughly three in four Lily Lake homes were built between the 1970s and the 2000s — the median year built is 1992 — and 96.8% of them are single-family detached houses running a median of nearly eight rooms, noticeably bigger than the county norm.
