Marengo’s Trusted Heating, Cooling & Indoor Air Quality Specialists
Marengo traces its roots to spring 1835, when Calvin Spencer settled near the Kishwaukee River — by the city’s own account, arguably the oldest community in McHenry County. Originally called Pleasant Grove, the town took the name Marengo in 1841 and became a city in 1893, and its history runs deep: it served as a stop on the Underground Railroad, and hometown pitcher Carl Lundgren helped the Cubs win the 1907 and 1908 World Series. That long history is still visible downtown, where Route 23 crosses Grant Highway near the Italianate “Cupola House,” on the National Register since 1979. Housing spans the generations too — about a fifth of homes predate 1939 and another quarter date to 1940-1969, which makes the older core a strong candidate for boiler and water heater service and ductless mini-splits where ductwork was never installed, while the ranches and newer construction filling out the city are due for furnace and AC work as original equipment ages out.
Marengo is still a working farm city at heart — surrounded by productive farmland, limestone quarries, and the nurseries that supply landscaping to half of Chicagoland, with Mitsubishi Logisnext’s forklift plant as its largest employer and Settlers’ Days taking over downtown every October. It’s also a place of real weather: recorded temperatures here have swung from 109 degrees to 29 below, which is exactly why routine maintenance matters more out here than almost anywhere else we serve. We serve the neighboring communities too — Union, Huntley, Harvard, and Hampshire are all minutes away.

Marengo’s New Gateway — an Old Farm City Meets I-90
Marengo has spent nearly two centuries as a farm city at the western edge of the Chicago area — one of McHenry County’s oldest communities, its 1851 rail depot now preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum, its surrounding farmland, quarries, and nurseries still working land. Then, on December 23, 2019, the city got something new: a full-access interchange where Route 23 meets I-90 — the only direct connection between McHenry County and the interstate system anywhere in the county.
State grants now totaling tens of millions of dollars are funding water and sewer extensions out to that interchange — infrastructure the city expects to finish around 2028 — and officials have floated a 20-year vision of the corridor growing the way Randall Road did for Algonquin and Huntley. For now, most of the land around the interchange is still farmland waiting on utilities, and downtown hasn’t changed shape: it’s the same crossroads it’s been for generations. That combination — a long-settled core and a fast-changing edge — is exactly why Marengo needs an HVAC partner who treats every home on its own terms, whether that’s a century-old house by the Cupola House or a brand-new build on the city’s growing western side. We size the fix to the home, not to a one-size template built for a bigger suburb.
