Install Dunkirk Hydronic Boiler – McKinley Park

We were able to install a new Dunkirk boiler a few days ago in Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood.

Installing a hydronic boiler requires detailed planning and precise workmanship to ensure safe and efficient operation. We begin each time by calculating the home’s heating load so we can select the correct boiler size. Next, we evaluate square footage, insulation levels, and overall heat loss to make an accurate recommendation. After selecting the proper unit, we prepare the installation area by confirming adequate space, proper ventilation, and an approved venting and drainage path. If we are replacing an existing boiler, we disconnect it, drain the system, and remove it before setting the new unit on a level, stable surface.

Next, we connect the supply and return piping to the boiler. These lines deliver heated water to radiators, baseboards, or radiant flooring and return cooler water to be reheated. During this project we also install circulator pumps to move the water efficiently, isolation valves for service access, an expansion tank to manage pressure changes, and a pressure relief valve to maintain safety.  After completing the piping, we connect the gas line and perform a thorough leak test. We then install the venting system according to manufacturer specifications and local code requirements.

By wiring the boiler to its power source and connecting thermostats or zone controls, the install is almost complete. Once all components are in place, we fill the system with water, purge air from the lines, and adjust system pressure. During startup, we inspect all connections, verify proper water circulation, test burner operation, and confirm even heat distribution.
